WORD COUNT |:| “Words are chameleons, which reflect the color of their environment”. - Learned Hand
It’s so amazing how a mere 26 letters in the English alphabet can amount to what can feel like an endless WORD COUNT. The Oxford English 20-volume Dictionary published in 1989 contains full entries for 171,476 words in current use, and 47,156 for obsolete words. Yet we often find ourselves coming up short with the right words to express how we feel and what we see, and what we want to feel and want to see.
In design, the latter is usually part of the design problem to solve for a project. With so much visual stimuli around us at any given moment, sometimes trying to find the right words to express our concepts and ideas can be a overwhelming task, yet an important one. When a design is pitched, it is spoken for and about. When a design is completed, it speaks for itself, it introduces itself to the world and every person that encounters it. It's speaks in the language of the person who beholds it through the experience it brings them. There is no WORD COUNT when a design is expressing itself and connecting with someone. There is only how we feel and what we see, and that is enough.
