As New Jerseyans, we are SO excited about having a State Inventor! On May 2, 2019, Bill S1857 Designated Thomas Alva Edison our New Jersey State Inventor. Completing 1,093 patents, Edison invented both products and systems to support those products. The volume and depth of his patents is unmatched, and as we think of our modern lifestyle today, we can't help but be thankful for all of Mr. Edison's diligence and achievements.
.
Very widely known for his accomplishments in light bulbs, Mr. Edison's range of inventions is as impressive as it is diverse. Named The Man of the Millennium by LIFE magazine, Edison left behind 4,000 notebooks and other drawings, sketches and correspondence, totaling over 5 million documents from which we can still learn from and about this most unique man. Although mass media did not exist as we know it during Mr. Edison's life, his was a face recognized throughout the world and known for his many, and very impressive, accomplishments.
.
Throughout his life, Edison operated on four simple principles, taught to him by his mother:
1. Never get discouraged if you fail. Learn from it. Keep trying.
2. Learn with both your head and hands.
3. Not everything of value in life comes from books-experience the world.
4. Never stop learning. Read the entire panorama of literature.
.
What an amazing legacy! Living here in New Jersey, we are able to visit Mr. Edison’s home and laboratory, a National Historic Park (and one of our favorite places here in New Jersey!).
